Camps & Tours

Our School camp program commences in Year 2 with a single night away at Camp Don Bosco at Safety Beach through to a five day tour to Canberra in Year 6.  Student participation in the camp program aims to foster:

  • a sense of independence,
  • a chance to learn through direct experience,
  • an occasion to work collaboratively with peers in different ways and settings and
  • an opportunity to build resilience and confidence.

The School also has a strong relationship with a remote Indigenous community in the Northern Territory.  A small group of interested students from Year 6 travel to Areyonga each year in a cultutal exchange program.

Christ Church Grammar Achool Cultural Exchange Program at Areyonga NT - A Student Perspective

Two nights camping by the dry river bed was definitely an amazing experience. Our ring of swags around a roaring campfire was buzzing with stories, songs and games. Each morning a spectacular sunrise greeted us, as did the rather noisy and apparently nocturnal donkeys. When we left Areyonga, many of our students were quite emotional, having formed strong bonds with the locals over just a few short days. The kids said goodbye to each other, handshakes, hugs, pats on the back and awkward smiles, some of which were holding back a few tears. Our gifts of sports equipment, musical instruments and art supplies were most appreciated by the locals, who gave us some Pitjantjatjara storybooks and cooked kangaroo tail especially for us on our final evening.

Other Experiences

Our students have the opportunity to participate in the Interschool Snowsports Competition in Term 3.  Students travel to Mt Hotham with their families over two weekends for a training camp followed by the competition.
